Grid scan planner: points, spacing and coverage
Enter your service radius and grid size to see how many search points a scan uses and how far apart they are. It's a free tool you can link to.
Rules of thumb
| Area type | Typical radius | Suggested grid | Spacing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dense city centre | 1 mi | 5×5 | 0.5 mi |
| Suburb / town | 3 mi | 7×7 | 1 mi |
| County-wide trade | 10-15 mi | 9×9 | 2.5-3.75 mi |
These are our own suggestions, not fixed rules. If points are much more than a mile apart in a busy city, you can miss changes between them. If the grid goes far beyond where you work, it adds "not found" points that don't matter.
