Why isn't my business showing on Google Maps?

Short answer: it's usually one of three things. Your profile isn't verified or live, the profile has been suspended, or it is live but ranks too low to show for that search from where you're searching. The first two you can see in your profile. The third you can only see by checking from more than one location.

1. Check the profile is verified and live

Unverified profiles may not appear publicly. Google explains the verification options and how long they can take in Google Business Profile Help: Verify your business. If you edited key details recently, the change may be under review, which can briefly affect visibility (Google Business Profile Help: Edit your Business Profile).

2. Check for a suspension

If the profile was suspended or disabled, Business Profile Manager shows a notice. Google lists the reasons and the appeal route in Google Business Profile Help: Fix suspended or disabled profiles. Common causes are guideline issues such as keyword stuffing in the business name, a virtual office address, or a service-area business showing a home address (Google Business Profile Help: Guidelines for representing your business).

3. Search for your exact business name

If you appear for your name but not for "plumber near me", the profile works. The problem is ranking, not visibility. Keep reading.

4. Distance: you may only be invisible in some places

Google ranks local results mainly on relevance, distance and prominence (Google Business Profile Help: Tips to improve your local ranking). A business that is third from its own office can be missing entirely two miles away. Checking from one phone tells you very little about the rest of your service area.

5. Relevance: category and details

Your primary category is one of the strongest relevance signals you control. Pick the category that matches what people search, then fill in services, hours and a description that are accurate (Google Business Profile Help: Tips to improve your local ranking).

6. Prominence: reviews and the wider web

Google says review count and rating, plus how well known the business is across the web, feed prominence (Google Business Profile Help: Tips to improve your local ranking). Ask real customers for reviews. Google's Google Business Profile Help: Tips to get more reviews covers the allowed ways to do it, and never buy or gate reviews.

7. Your website and NAP consistency

Use the same name, address and phone number on your site and in your profile, and add business details Google can read (Google Search Central: Add business details to Google). Practitioners rank this kind of on-page and citation consistency well up in surveys such as the Whitespark Local Search Ranking Factors survey. That's opinion data, not something Google confirms.

8. Filtering and duplicates

Duplicate profiles or several listings at one address can mean Google shows only one of them. Remove duplicates through Business Profile support.

9. Measure before and after

Once the basics are fixed, the honest question is "where do I show up now?" Measure it across the area you serve, then re-check after each change.

See your real Maps footprint

RankFootprint runs your keyword from a grid of points across your service area and shows your rank at each one, so you can see where you show up, where you don't, and who beats you there. Scan results come from SerpApi, a third-party API that retrieves Google Maps search results on our behalf. Results reflect what Google showed at the time of the scan. We don't guarantee any ranking.

FAQ

Why does my business show on Google Search but not on Maps?

Usually it does show. It just ranks below the visible results for that keyword and location. Search your exact business name on Maps to confirm the profile is live.

How long after verification will my business appear on Google Maps?

Google says verification can take several days or more depending on the method. After that, how visible you are depends on ranking, not verification alone.

Can I pay Google to show on Maps?

Google sells ads that can appear in Maps, but you can't pay for organic local rankings.
